Meet Bonnie and Angus

Day In.

We had some furry visitors to our house earlier this month, and they stayed for two weeks. My parents recently bought a new house in Nashville. There was a two week period where they had to move out of their old house but the new house wasn't ready...so Stuart and I were ready to take on their two fun and crazy puppies. (Note: they technically aren't puppies anymore but I refuse to let them grow up)

Bonnie and Angus definitely made themselves at home. Here are some highlights from their adventures.

Meet Angus. He's a short dog but thinks he's a big one. Lots of personality, this one. He will make you laugh.

Meet Bonnie. She's soft and fuzzy and will love you forever if you just pet her.
And her eyelashes might just be four inches long.

We learned that Bonnie LOVES cornhole. Ok really, she loves playing monkey-in-the-middle with the bean sacks.
Too funny.

Bonnie and Angus "share" a bone. Sometimes they are sweet ;)

I came home to this scene one day from work. Someone (who shall not be named) had rolled up their dog blanket like a yoga mat.
Also, see the pile in the background? I discovered that was Angus's treasure chest, i.e. scraps of metal and twigs were underneath. I caught them!

Angus is our guard dog. This officially became his chair.
I even had to angle it more towards the window so he could "guard" better.

Angus loves the sun.

Bonnie loves food.
Hehe that was harsh. At this time, she was on steroids so all she could think about was food. She's a cute beggar though.

Bonnie loved the pond.

Bonnie and Angus love water!

Meal time.

This is how Bonnie lays down. Here she is in my room, eyeing my shoes.

And she found one! At first, I took it away but then she was so darn cute, I let her have it as a souvenir :)

Let's just say it's a lot quieter around here without them...and they are missed.

p.s. One thing I failed to mention. Bonnie and Angus are from the same litter! I kid you not.

Garden Update

Day In.

I know you all have been anxious to get an update on our garden, aka SFG. Things are looking good. The zucchini is crazy! It definitively overshadows a lot of other plants. We have realized that we probably did too many seeds for a square foot.

Ta-da!

Our giant zucchini leaves.

Basil with carrots in the background.

A baby zucchini.

Tomato vine.

Pole beans!

So far, we have picked three zucchinis and a basil bunch. We ate the zucchini last night...so good! Tonight, I am using the basil in some pesto.

One of three zucchinis....this one measure 10 inches.

New Window Boxes

Day In.

When my parents were in town, my mom and I went shopping for some new window box flowers. The pansies died (as expected), and I was ready for some color for Spring!

I wanted to coordinate with my pink wreath.

I picked up some amazing caladiums, impatiens and creeping Jennys. I have always wanted caladiums, and I found some pink and green ones! I like to affectionately call them "bobble heads".

(side note: the impatiens are supposed to have pink flowers...we will see if that happens!)

My beautiful bobble heads.

Also, my parents just bought a new house in Nashville. While packing/getting rid of stuff, Stuart and I were happy to take their American flag off their hands. We have always wanted one!

Sips and Strokes

Day In.

Stuart was off playing a double header in softball last night, so I was glad that I had planned a girls night. We decided to do something extremely girly. So I choose Sips and Strokes! It really is a fun thing to do...though there was a large amount of negativism and criticism of our own paintings.

My favorite part is bringing wine and hummus. Can't go wrong with that!

Here we are...five little blonds with their "poppies". Mary Elise decided to be different and do yellow. What a fun night!

I'm not sure mine will find itself a permanent home in our house...

p.s. I HIGHLY recommend sitting by Megan while painting...she constantly looks over and compliments you :) Good for the confidence.

Spring

Day In.

Something amazing has happened in our backyard. Our hydrangeas have bloomed...a lot! And they are gorgeous.

Two years ago, I thought I knew what I was doing and cut the dead branches after they bloomed. Oops...I must have taken off a bit too much. They skipped a bloom last year.

But I guess it's almost worth it...I don't think they were this pretty two years ago! Lesson learned :)

And they bloomed just in time to decorate my dining room table. Perfect for a night grilling with friends.

Felt Flower Wreaths

I have seen these types of wreaths on Pinterest and always thought they were so cute (and seemed fairly easy). So I decided to try a couple.

I bought some pieces of felt from Hancock Fabric. I bought yellow for a friend to make a baby wreath.

It turned out simple enough...though I had a few run-ins with the hot glue (ow!).

Here's a quick tutorial for the felt flowers for those of you (like me) that thought they looked difficult.

Use a round object to measure circles, depending on the size of wreath.

Cut the circle...

...until it looks like this (sorry, I couldn't think of a better way to describe!).

Reassemble the circle by hot gluing it into a rosette.

Voila! Felt Flower. Now repeat like 20 times :)

Here's my baby wreath (not the best photo, taken by phone)

I decided to make one for my front door for Spring. I wanted a "cheery" color since our house in green, the yard is green, etc. Everything seems to be green. So, I chose hot pink! It really does brighten up the door.

My very talented friend made me the sweetest banner for Easter. It's hard to read here but it says "He is Risen". It was a lovely surprise! I decided to add it to the wreath for the month of April. I love how it turned out.

Happy Spring!

SFG Update

Day in.

Some of you probably just read the article about the square foot garden we created.  Since we took the pictures, we have had a little bit of action.  Some from animals, some from plants.

We thought we'd give an update.

Some birds and squirrels decided they wanted to get in on the action and at their own touch.  I think the birds were trying to eat the seeds, and the squirrels were moving the seeds around/bury their own. In order to keep the animals out of the garden, we added chicken wire around the garden.  We got 25' of 2' chicken wire.  We attached it to the base with a staple gun and attached it to the top with old bread ties and other wire we had around.
Animal Proofed.
You also probably notice there is some green in the garden.  Currently, every square foot has something green popping up.  Some veggies are growing a lot faster than others, so here are a few pictures.
Beans
Zucchini
That's it for now. We'll be sure to update once we harvest something to eat.
